Day 1 is just showing up

On the annoying dignity of starting before it looks impressive.

The first day did not ship the thing.

The thing, to be clear, was called One Thing™.

So we are starting strong.

Terrible news for the fantasy version of me who opens a laptop, makes one clean decision, and glides into a finished product while drinking water and respecting time.

The real version opened the tools, made the prototype, recorded the thinking, and ran out of day before the product was done. The real version also briefly considered renaming the app Several Things, But Emotionally.

Still useful.

Starting creates evidence. Evidence creates the next move. The next move is where the actual build starts, because now the idea has touched reality and reality has begun making suggestions. Usually rude ones.

The lesson was not “move faster.”

The lesson was: make Day 1 exist.

Everything else gets easier once there is something on the table, even if the thing on the table is mostly a mess with a name.
